Post Creative is a new studio space in Toronto
The team behind Toronto vintage furniture shop Post Design Collective has opened a new studio space for rent that showcases some of the best in mid-century design.
Post Creative is an 1,800-square-foot, two-storey space located in a 120-year-old building in the city’s west end. The studio, which features original hardwood floors, large frosted windows and a loft-like feel typical of the Parkdale neighbourhood, is available for photo and video shoots and content creation projects by the hour or by the day.
Owners Amanda Mota and JP Guay sourced all of Post Creative’s furniture, lighting and decor from vintage, secondhand or local Toronto companies.
Among the eye candy: two MR10 chairs by Mies Van Der Rohe, a Storvik rattan cane lounge chair by Carl Öjerstam for IKEA, a Model 69 dining chair by Alvar Aalto for Artek and a contemporary Puddle Mirror from Curves by Sean Brown.
The furniture will be ever-rotating, as some of the pieces are part of Post Design Collective’s regular inventory and are available for purchase online. A few additional pieces from the shop’s warehouse are available as custom add-ons for each booking.
Also inside Post Creative are flexible living and lounge areas with couches, chairs and a queen-size bed, a modern working kitchen and dining area, an indoor cactus and rock garden, and a stylish, photo-ready private washroom.
A nine-foot paper backdrop wall is available for shoots, as is an onsite immersive art installation, which will be replaced every two to three months throughout the year.
First up is “Silent Bloom,” an installation of more than 1,000 individually tied artificial flowers, by Post Creative co-founder and in-house artist Amanda Mota.
Mota, who was inspired by digital creators Visual Citizens for “Silent Bloom,” says to The Vintage Seeker via email that the rotating works “are meant to inspire creators and the content they create within the space.”
Post Creative is Post Design Collective’s second rental space in Toronto, though the first is available exclusively to creatives, brands and photographers. Opening this new outpost is a way to welcome those creators but also entrepreneurs from any industry, say Mota and Guay.
“We realized how much our own space helped us grow our brand, and that’s exactly what we intend with Post Creative — for the studio to act as a space that anyone can use to promote and grow their small business,” they say.
